Must-See Summer Movie Guide

Posted by: Mira Roberts

Summer is famous for sunshine and time spent outdoors, but it's also a season for movie watching, and many of the year's biggest blockbusters are released beginning Memorial Day weekend, nationwide.

After all, summer days and nights can get pretty steamy, and an escape to your local movie theater is a perfect way to get cool and be entertained while you're at it. If you're wondering what movies to watch this summer and don't want to spend hours searching the internet and watching movie trailer after movie trailer, you've come to the right place.

We've created a Must-See Summer Movie Guide with 8 movies we think are worth considering. Whether you prefer action, comedy, whimsy, cartoon or a good, old-fashioned drama, there are a variety of options for both you and your family this summer.

From now until Labor Day weekend, you'll have the chance to see some of the year's best movies on the big screen (or, if you wait a while, you can always rent and watch from the comfort of your home). Here are a few flicks we recommend you check out...

Alice Through the Looking Glass
Lewis Carroll's sequel to Alice in Wonderland comes to life on the big screen in this dazzling, visually spectacular movie arriving Memorial Day weekend in theaters. Prepare to be swept away on whimsical adventures with Alice and a few of her returning friends, like the Mad Hatter and the Red Queen.

Finding Dory
Opening in Mid-June, the sequel to Finding Nemo finally arrives with quirky, hilarious and ever-forgetful Dory as its star. A perfect movie to take grand-kids to on hot days or for a sunday matinee, the entire family will enjoy watching Dory conquer her fears and "get found" under the sea.

The BFG
Based on the book by beloved author Roald Dahl, Steven Spielberg directs this heartwarming film featuring the world's biggest (and friendliest) giant. With the screenplay written by ET's Melissa Mathison, the plot and storyline are sure to be spectacular. Take your grandkids, your kids or yourself!

Ghostbusters
When you need a good laugh this July, you'll want to take yourself directly to the theater for the revamped, all-female Ghostbusters movie. Featuring hilarious performances by some of your favorite female comedians like Melissa McCArthy, Kristin Wiig and Kate McKinnon, you're sure to score some needed belly laughs at this one.

The Infiltrator
This intense drama and crime thriller is based on true events and tells the story of an undercover DEA agent in the 1980s attempting to bust Pablo Escobar and stars Brian Cranston. Get ready to spend time at the edge of your seat, so choose this movie when you're ready to rev up for an adrenaline rush.

Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie
Join Patsy and Adina from the television show, Ab Fab, for their first cinematic performance in this hilarious comedy starring two of our all-time favorite comedic characters. Expect ridiculous antics and loads of hysterical behavior from Patsy, Adina and their friends from start to finish.

The Founder
Starring Michael Keaton as Ray Kroc, The Founder tells the true story of the original traveling salesman who took McDonald's out from under its orginal owners and took it to National fame. This compelling story features stellar performances by Michael Keaton and Laura Dern, and will certainly be relevant to every person who has experienced McDonald's catastrophic rise to fame over the last 50 years.

Ben Hur
Fan's of Charlton Heston's epic performance in this intense story of chariot racing and family honor will want to see the newly reimagined version featuring Jack Huston as Judah Ben-Hur. Intense action and combat performances make this a perfect movie for the action movie buff in your life.
