Outdoor Activities for Spring
The spring season is in full bloom, and it's time to take advantage of beautiful, moderate temperatures and enjoy the outdoors. When summer comes to Coastal Virginia, it's sure to heat up, and you may find yourself seeking shade over sunshine. Until then, make the most of May and early June and get outside to explore your community and neighborhood.
There are so many ways to experience the best of your region outdoors this season. Whether you prefer to take long walks and scenic bike rides, or sit back and enjoy outdoor concerts or leisurely boat rides, you'll find what you're looking for nearby. Breathe in fresh air and soak up some much needed Vitamin D, invite a friend or two along, and make the most of comfortable weather in a beautiful environment.
We've chosen a few of our favorite outdoor activities that will keep you heading outside again and again. Enjoy the season, and happy trails!
Walk or Bike the Trails
If you like to move your body when you spend time outdoors, there's good news for you in Virginia Beach. Venture out to First Landing State Park for a variety of trails that are perfect for hiking or biking. If you want to explore the beach, head to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront and take the boardwalk on two wheels or two feet. Nature is around almost every corner, and if you're willing to take a longer trek to find your adventure, head to False Cape State Park through the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge.
Whether you want to watch for bottlenose dolphins with the team from the Virginia Aquarium, head out on a pirate ship adventure or cruise on a kayak tour, you've got options when you want to get out on the water. Spend an afternoon or early evening on one of the many waterways that surround Virginia Beach, and soak in the sunshine along with cool breezes and breathtaking views.
In spring, local farmer's markets open back up and feature fresh, local produce, as well as canned or jarred goods, local artwork and more. If you haven't figured out just the right way to spend a long, Saturday morning, heading to your nearby farmer's market may be the answer. You can head to Old Beach Farmer's Market for a full service farm market featuring a variety of local vendors, artists and goodies at the oceanfront, or try the Virginia Beach Farmer's Market for an equally expansive market in a more traditional environment, set back beside the Ampitheater and VB Courthouse on Princess Anne Road.
The Virginia Beach Boardwalk lights up each spring and summer with exciting entertainment and festivals designed to delight every member of your family. From the Beach Music Cruise In (featuring music and cars from the oldies) to the Salute to Summer Festival (Memorial Day Weekend), it's no problem finding live music, great food and good times outdoors at area festivals in May.
